I have curly hair. How do I make a blowout last past the first shower?
Moisture is the mortal enemy of a blowout. Be sure to wash and condition your hair well before straightening. When you do shower, use a terrycloth shower cap or twist your hair up loosely in a thick towel. Steam is moisture to the max so get in and get out …or take cold showers. Yuck! Use a spritz of dry shampoo for oily roots, but don’t go more than a week without washing. Gross.
Nude lips are so hot right now. How do I pick the right shade?
It’s critical to your face to know which shade of pale is right for you. Too pale and you look like you’re DOA and to bright just plays up all the sallow imperfections of your skin. Here’s an easy way to find the color family for your skin tone. Fair skinned beauties look for natural shades like vanilla. You may feel like you’re adding too much color to achieve the totally pale look you want, but, trust me, you don’t want to go beige or you’re a corpse. Put on the lipstick and step back to take in your entire look. Want to look paler, darken up your eyes. Pink undertones work best in your pale shades.
Medium skinned lovelies, you want to go beige. Be careful not to cake it on. You need to work Vaseline into the middle of both lips to keep a pretty glow about you. Soft shimmery colors on your eyes bring out the pale of your lips. Carmel undertones are right for you and for girls with dark skin.
Dark skinned hotties look best in shades of brown sugar. Take a look at a few different bags of it at the grocery store and you’ll see what you’re looking for. From light brown to dark brown, this gives you the palest lips. Find a moisturizing lipstick with a tinge of gold for a super sultry look.
How do the girls in magazines get that pink glow? Is it all lighting or can makeup really do that?
Smart girl. Lots of that look is accomplished with light, but not all. There are a few tricks that help you look like you’re being followed with a perfect photo lamp. Hydrated skin is the key. Dry skin will never look glowy. Choose your moments to shine wisely, greasy skin will produce breakouts. You can rub a little (stress “little”) Vaseline on your “tan spots” the places you tan first – cheeks, chin, nose and above the brows. Dust a bit of translucent powder over your face to set it and control the shine. For the right color, you need a cream blush. Powders can’t glow. Best results come from duos of color in pink and beige. These blend for a really natural, I-was-born-with-it result. It’s crucial to add tiny amounts of color and shine at a time or you’ll look like a fry cook.
