It can be easy to be influenced by the latest fashion ads and designers. However, not all of those styles may look good on your body. Sometimes the best way to create the perfect wardrobe is to stick to clothing items that suit you and not the model on the runway. To help make your clothing purchases worry-free, keep the following in mind: large clothes exaggerate your figure, thin fabrics as well as wearing a top and bottom that are the same color creates a slimming effect, and belts can make you look wider unless you have a naturally small waist. If you want to avoid making your neck appear short, don’t wear tops with high collars or short necklaces. Opt for clothes with thick, vertical lines and plaid designs for a longer and slimmer looking torso.
As far as dressing for your body type, the rules are fairly simple, it’s just a matter of finding the ideal items. Tall women already have the length so stay away from clothes and skirts that are too long or too short. Indulge in wide belts to enhance your waist or hips if you want to appear curvier and wear your belts loosely instead of tightly.
For women built straight up and down who want to create more curves, be sure to sport jackets and tops that hug your waist firmly, as well as a thick sweater over a skirt or pair of form-fitting pants. Add patterns to either your top or bottom to add dimension, and dress up your neckline with a nice necklace, scarf or other accessory.
Petite women should include slim, narrow belts in their wardrobe, as well as materials that are soft and flowing. Stick to fitted lines and sport a contrast in colors. Avoid overpowering prints and if you’ve got the legs, wear shorts and skirts that are a tad big shorter in length to create the illusion of longer legs.
Plus size women can turn to V-necks, skirts with slits and clothing items with vertical lines, which creates a slimming effect. Long tops that go past the hips, jackets, suits and shirtwaist dresses in straight, classic cuts are ideal to add to your wardrobe. Stay away from bulky fabrics, and only choose fluid and vertical patterns on top. Bright colors on top and dark colors on the bottom can create a more balanced and pleasing appearance. Avoid straight and A-line skirts as well as wide pinafore skirts, which only exaggerate your shape.
Women who are top-heavy should avoid shoulder pads, tops with fancy details and ruffles. For a slimming effect, choose darker colors for your blouses and shy away from fabrics that are too tight. To draw attention away from the top part of your body, wear pleated pants or skirts to bring the eye downwards. Additionally, wear tops that fit loose around the bust area but slim down to hug the hips and/or waist.
