The first step is to not get intimidated. Remember that the latest bathing suits the supermodels are sporting may not look the same way on you as it does on them. And that isn’t a bad thing. The key to finding your ideal bathing suit is to find the one that looks best on you - not a model or other celebrity. This means taking the time to search for what works for you and makes you feel good.
Once you’ve picked the day to go shopping, you’ll have to take a few steps to prepare. The day before, be sure to not eat any foods that contain starchy carbs and salt, since this causes your body to retain water. The end result is a bloated feeling, which will definitely impact the way you look and feel while trying on swimsuits. Also choose a day when you are not about to start menstruating. It goes without saying that the moodiness, irritability, and bloated side effects of PMS will distort your self-image so find a day when you are in good spirits.
It helps to have a second opinion from someone you trust so bring a friend along. A true friend will tell you the truth without hurting your feelings and can help you find styles that you may not have thought of. If you can’t find anyone to go with you, find the nearest salesperson to help you out. This will work best in specialty stores where the salespeople are very knowledgeable about the items. They can offer advice and suggest the best swimsuits for your body shape.
Being able to feel comfortable while shopping for bathing suits is to find the right store to look in. Pick a store where you don’t feel intimidated. It helps to shop at a store that caters to your size and build. If you’re a plus size gal, you may not want to shop at a store that specializes in petite or smaller sizes and styles. That being said, do not get frustrated by sizes alone. Depending on whether you’ve gained or lost weight, you may end up having to wear a different size than normal. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Instead of seeing yourself as getting “fat,” don’t focus on the numbers and instead focus on the fit of the bathing suit. If it looks good, it shouldn’t matter what the number on the tag says.
When trying on swimsuits in the dressing room, look at yourself from all angles and be sure you like what you see. Each time you put on your bathing suit, you should feel totally secure. If there are any doubts, move on to the next swimsuit. No one is going to wear your bathing suit but you so ensure that your purchase is one that you’ll never regret.
