Have Stress-Free Holiday Hair

Have Stress-Free Holiday HairA stress-free holiday season? Is it possible? Well, we can’t make any guarantees about the in-laws but we can offer these tips about keeping your hair and health as stress-free as possible. After all, when you look good and feel good you can handle a lot more than you could on a mediocre hair day. And you might be surprised to find how simple it all can be.

The first thing you can do for yourself and everyone around you is to become a planner. If this is already n your blood then put your gift to work and start organizing you time. When you know you have to be somewhere that will require a lot of prep time – and by that I mean a lot of time in front of the mirror. Instead of trying hours to complete a fancy hairdo, go shopping in magazines, at your stylist’s waiting room or even on TV for a creative and simple style. Twists and knots and even ponytails are popular and are always easy to do. Give a new style a test run before you need to pull it off and go out in public. The keys to stress-free hair are to just go for it and worry if it starts out messy or frizzy. Have good products on-hand to tame the frizz and hold your finished look in place. If your holiday hair will require a lot of hairspray, invest in a great spritzer that adds shine.

When you know that you’re going to be out and about and possibly having drinks, be sure to prep your hair. Avoid a hair hangover by having deep conditioner in the tub or shower at all times. Even if you can’t leave it in for the recommended amount of time, the steam from the shower will help open the hair shaft and allow the conditioner to soak in.

Be sure you have all the tools you need to pull of the amazing new do. Bobby pins, root booster, hairspray for your bathroom and another for your purse. If you’re prepared to get ready, your stress levels will stay low and that means a healthier, happier looking and feeling you.

If you’ll be spending the night way from home, or if you’ll transition from the fancy event to something more casual, be prepared for that too. A spritzer of water can help you take you hair out of a complicated do down to something much more comfortable and situation appropriate. Practice changing your hairstyle too. Test runs make the event so much easier. Have a wide headband, scarf or ribbon on-hand. They cover a multitude of tangles, frizzies and hairspray hardened hair woes. Slide one into the front of your hair and pull even the most untamed hair back into a pony. Pull it all the way through the elastic once. On the second or third time through (hair needs to be relatively tight), stop halfway through. Hair will be in a ball on top with ends sticking out underneath. Pull the sides of the ball of hair until it lays in a messy bun. Either quick curl the ends or tuck them under the bun with leftover pins form the night before.
