If you ever happen to get paste or paint in your hair, you’ll want to know how to remedy this without losing your locks. The good news about paint and paste is that these days many are formulated to easily wash out with water. Make sure the paste and/or paint you’re using is water based. However, if you happen to get a different type stuck in your hair there are a few things you can do. For paste, it is best to wait until it dries into clumps on your hair. Then carefully pick out the huge clumps and rinse the remaining paste out with shampoo - be gentle during this process. For paint stuck in your hair that won’t come out and isn’t water based, try a small bit of paint remover (read the directions to see if it is safe for use on skin and hair) and try to get the paint out that way. You can also look for a contact number on the product to call the company and ask for removal suggestions. Or you can call the art store where you bought the product and ask them for help.
It may be hard to believe but some people have gotten petroleum jelly stuck in their hair. While this mess may seem easy to remove it does take a few steps more than simply washing it out. First you’ll want to take a touch of cornstarch and apply it to the hair. Be sure to pat it in and not rub. This will allow the cornstarch to absorb most of the petroleum jelly. Then shampoo gently with a clarifying product. You may need to do this more than once until you get all the remaining petroleum jelly out.
Getting gum stuck in the hair is also a common occurrence. For such situations careful removal is suggested since this can result in an unwanted hair cut. One option is to take cooking oil or olive oil and apply it to the gum in order to make it softer. Then use a rattail comb to carefully remove the gum from your locks. Another alternative is to apply creamy peanut butter onto the gum to soften it and then using a wide toothed comb to work the gum out of the hair.
Getting smoke in your hair can be pretty gross. Just short of washing your hair you can take a scented dryer sheet and wipe it all over your tresses. The dryer sheet will absorb the smoke smell and effectively remove it from your hair. If your hair is filled with some other odor that is strong and not easily removed, you’ll have to rinse your hair out with undiluted tomato sauce. Those with light colored hair may experience a bit of hair discoloration from the tomato sauce.
