Super New Trends For Your Face

Super New Trends For Your FaceIf getting backstage at the season’s major fashion shows is a bit out of your league, you’re in good company (we didn’t get in either), but we did get the scoop on what’s up in fashion for your face. Makeup artists are going retro with a twist and doing things they have never tried before. One thing you’ll notice if you look close at the faces of the girls on the runway is that their makeup actually looks like something we’d wear to work or out for the evening. The harsh, unrealistic color swaths (especially black, except for mascara) are gone and delicate, fresh faces are complimenting the clothes of summer.

Dick Page went way back to the days of bombshells at the Michael Kors’ shows by doing red lips. Not so innovative, we know. What’s new is that these lips aren’t smack-you-in-the-face bright or dark. They are lined with bright but muted red, covered with a matching lipstick and softened by a clear gloss. Cheeks and eyes are bronzed and that’s it for color. The look is romantic, totally feminine and completely wearable.

Dark eyes and olive skin are going plum at the Erin Featherston shows. If this is you, this look is something to try. It’s the shape of the eye shadow that is original and striking, and it’s so easy to do. Dust gold shadow over your lids and then use your finger to smudge your shade of plum above the crease, extending up to the outer corner of your eye. Think of your two eyes as the two sides of a “V” – that’s the shape you’re going for with the plum shadow. Add clean lines of plum to your top and bottom lashes and plenty of mascara to complete the look. This is so eye-catching, yet it’s subtle. You’ll definitely get second looks!

Vera Wang’s makeup artists have struck gold with the color that looks amazing on anyone – shades of ice. Think silvery reflections in every hue that glistens from morning till midnight, almost-white silver, silvery gray, glistening smoke and late-night black. Mix at least two of these shades, add mascara and you’re ready to rock. Paired with pale lips and pink-bronzed cheeks (the next two super trends, by the way), your eyes look bright and dark circles are a thing of the past.

Here’s something I’ll bet you’ve never tried, get out the blender and add rosy-pink lipstick, white eyeliner and beige eye shadow. All together, they make the sexiest pale lip color makeup artist Gucci Westman’s ever used. It’s incredible what a little outside the gloss thinking can come up with. Get creative. Mix things up, literally.

For the prettiest cheeks yet, Mix soft pinks and bronze and apply to the cheek bones from the apples to the eyes. The bronze adds depth to the frame of your face and to your eye color. The pink peps up your cheeks and lights up your face.
