And Other Things We Don’t Say Out Loud
Whether they’ll admit it or not, most men have at least once in their lives looked at themselves in the mirror and noticed the signs of aging. There is nothing pretty about waking up and glancing in the mirror, only to find crow’s feet, creases in your forehead, slightly sagging jowls and (gasp) gray hairs. Even though most men tend to age better and with less effort than women, that doesn’t mean they aren’t prone to moments of self consciousness about their appearance.
While most men won’t say what they’re thinking out loud, some of the most common statements that are probably running through their minds include the following:
“Help! I woke up looking old!”
Time does tend to fly by and before you know it, you’re a few years older and it shows. If you haven’t been taking care of yourself over the years, you may be prone to experiencing fine lines and wrinkles, gravity taking hold of your complexion and pulling it down, and pesky gray hairs on your head and, in some cases, even in your facial hair. Sure, your rugged good looks may still be intact but with Father Time on your face, this can keep you from appreciating the good and causing you to focus only on the bad.
“Man, I’m fat,” or “Man, I’m getting fat.”
Like it or not, the signs of the times affect not only your face but your body as well. Maybe you’ve had one too many beers, made a habit of skipping out on the gym, indulged in all the wrong foods, or maybe you’ve continued to neglect the treadmill, exercise bike and other equipment gathering dust in your home. Whatever the reason may be for your lack of physical activity, you may be noticing your waistline starting to expand, as well as an unflattering gut.
“Where did all these gray hairs come from?”
Even though some men can successfully sport gray hair, for the man who is in denial, seeing evidence of these hairs is enough to ruin your day. If you have facial hair, you may also have to deal with the hassle of gray hairs in your moustache, beard, or goatee. Can it get any worse? Luckily, you can turn to a good ole hair dye product (they even have them for facial hair) or you can make an appointment at your local salon to take care of your silver strands.
