Ryan Phillippe is the type of guy you can feel totally comfortable with bringing home to meet your parents. Even men can relate to Ryan Phillippe as an all-around “good guy.” For fellas with similar golden locks, Ryan Phillippe’s hair history can be an inspiration for times when you feel the need for something new but aren’t quite sure how it’ll look on you.
While most of us wouldn’t know much about Ryan’s hair, it’s important to know styling-wise, that this actor actually has thick, curly hair. At times finding and maintaining the right style can be somewhat of a challenge. Many times his unruly curls can take up time on the set of his movies; due to his hair type, Ryan is always experimenting with different cuts, styles and colors when it comes to his hair.
A classic Ryan Phillippe hairstyle is one that is short and close-cropped. The sides and back are cut close to the scalp, with the top slightly longer. To keep his curls from overpowering the style, the top is jaggedly cut to enhance the curl while maintaining control. Just about any face shape can wear this type of hairstyle, especially heart-shaped, oval, oblong, triangular and diamond-shaped face structures. Because of the short style, keeping the look together will be a breeze. Hair products that should be used for this short haircut include molding cream and mousse.
If you’re feeling a little more adventurous with your curls, then you can snag Ryan’s style from the red carpet at the 2005 premiere of Walk the Line, which starred his now ex-wife, Reese Witherspoon. For this hairstyle, the back and sides are still cut pretty close to the scalp but up top the curls are allowed more length. Instead of blond highlights, Ryan opted for a more uniform, darker shade. Using gel, the sides and back were slicked down, while the top of his hair was slightly layered to shape the curls. To create a seductively sexy look, Ryan’s hairstylist tousled the curls and chose a few tendrils to pull down in front of his forehead. To get and maintain this style, you’ll need to get the same cut - preferably by a professional hairstylist - and use products that will keep your curly hair’s natural shine. If the hair is too soft, this style won’t work. To recreate the curls on the top, use a curl enhancing get or pomade to shape the hair with your fingers and air dry.
Having unruly curly hair doesn’t always have to be bad. If you’d like to try wearing your hair as is, don’t fret, Ryan’s done it, too. Of course there are some style steps he had to follow in order to make his natural look work. To capture the same naturally curly look, visit your local hairstylist to have the sides and back trimmed, but not super close to the scalp. Avoid a razor cut since this tends to not mix well with curly hair and can damage the ends. Curly hair looks great when the hair is soft so use hair products that give just the right amount of softness and body. To maintain your curls, use hair products that are labeled “curl enhancing” and use mousse or gel to tame problem curls. This style can be free to run wild as you desire or you can use a little more hair product to maintain control.
