Tips for Male Facial Hair Styles

Tips for Male Facial Hair StylesWhile women usually spend an enormous amount of time dealing with their hair, men tend to have it a bit easier when it comes to the grooming department. However, if you’re a man who maintains facial hair, then you’re already well aware of the TLC that is needed to keep you looking your best. For those of you that have been wondering what type of facial hair style would look good on you, it’s important to know that your facial shape and features will play a big part in your decision.

Some men can completely pull off the baby smooth look, while others are more successful at sporting moustaches, beards, and other varieties of facial hair. But some of these looks don’t suit all male faces so if you plan on growing out your facial hair, it helps to be aware of what styles go with what type of faces. Having facial hair requires more time and commitment to maintenance so if this already sounds like too much for you to handle, then you may want to think twice before attempting such a makeover.

Younger men can pretty much get away with most facial hair styles but also take your facial features into account. Most young men don’t need a whole lot of facial hair so full on beards should be avoided. A well trimmed and shaped moustache and goatee can turn a baby faced guy into a full fledged, rugged hunk. Men in their 20s and 30s can sport closely cropped moustaches and goatees but be sure to choose the right amount of hair that balances out your features. You’ll want to avoid an overly thick moustache if you have thin lips, while men with larger lips will want to avoid pencil thin moustaches.

Men of any age sporting a bald head or a receding hairline will want to create a sense of balance with their facial hair, which can be achieved with a beard or goatee. However, the secret to making this look work for you is to have the hair closely clipped. Going too bushy can cause your bald head or receding hairline to become enhanced in a negative way. Older men tend to pull off the bushy look much better, but it’s still essential to keep the facial hair trimmed and groomed properly. Older complexions can appear more youthful with a moustache accompanied by a nicely shaped beard or goatee.

Not sure you want to experiment with so much facial hair? Then you can start with a moustache and/or a small patch of hair underneath the lower lip line. This style on the right face can make any man look distinguishing sexy. Men with high foreheads, narrow lips, or a larger nose can use a thin moustache or closely clipped patch of hair underneath their lower lip to balance out their features in a flattering way.

Regardless of what type of facial hair style you go for, it is important to take extra care of your new style. You’ll want to keep your facial hair neatly trimmed, shaped, and free of stray hairs. Beards will need to be shampooed and conditioned just like the hair on your head. For the best results, have your facial hair maintained by a professional stylist in a salon or at the barber shop.
