If by chance, you fall into that small sliver of the population blessed with superhuman tenacity and motivation, then congratulations, you have now reached the end of the article.
If, on the other hand, you are like most of us and need some help to stay on track, then please read on and see which ideas can work for you.
First of all, there are some ground rules. For most of us, a diet by itself will not give us the results we are looking for. And, in most cases, starting an exercise program without changing your eating habits is simply setting yourself up for inevitable failure. By the same token, starting and sticking to a fundamental shift in your lifestyle is something best done with help, encouragement and accountability.
While there have been many articles discussing the importance of training partners and the buddy approach to fitness, we are going to take a look at the resources available on the Web for men trying to lose weight.
Message Boards
While not the end-all be-all of Internet dieting resources, message boards can be great places for encouragement and tips. Every technique will not work for everyone, but learning from others who have tried similar diets or exercise programs can help you avoid mistakes or injuries you might not have otherwise seen coming. In addition, once you make your way in to the group of posters on a particular message board, you’ll find that many of them have a deep loyalty to their fellow posters and can help keep you motivated and on track.
Celebrity Trainers
Many celebrity trainers post their movie star workouts online. The real bonus to looking these over and possibly incorporating some of the exercises or diet tips into your own regimen is that you can se the results in those actors or actresses. Plus, it doesn’t hurt to know that you’re doing the same workout as Batman.
Fitness Magazines
There are a ton of fitness magazines out there and they all have an online presence. The real advantage to you is that in the Internet age, it’s all about content. Whereas in print, a shoddy publication could get by on glossy photos, a Web page needs to deliver information. By focusing on content, many of your favorite fitness magazines have online tutorials for exercises, recipes and even motivational encouragement. Spend some time checking out these sites and find one (or several) that offer the kind of information and motivation you need to stick to your eating plan and workout schedule.
Whether you’re looking for community, accountability or just solid quality fitness information, it’s all just a click away. So when you get back from your jog and finish your egg white omelet, start surfing.
