Many people that suffer from acne, both teenagers and adults alike, tend to get into the habit of learning which foods to stay away from instead of learning which food items to consume more of. Of course most of us know that keeping acne away through food means avoiding fried foods, dairy products, too much salt, and food that is high in sugar and carbs. With the right food choices and a balanced daily diet, you can effectively eliminate your existing acne as well as prevent future breakouts from ever occurring. This can be done primarily by eating a diet full of high fiber foods and is low in fat. Additionally, making good ole water your main beverage of choice, as well as consuming more fruits, veggies, and fish chock full of omega-3 fatty acids are also a must in your diet in order to eliminate your acne.
The relation between these acne-fighting foods and your skin is pretty strong. For example, consuming between 20-30 grams of fiber daily allows your colon to be effectively cleansed, which eliminates toxins from your body. If left as is, these same toxins have the ability to reach your complexion, wreaking havoc on your face. The same rule is true for eating acne-friendly foods. Consuming too many foods that are high in fat cause the body to increase its hormone production, which directly result in breakouts on your complexion. This includes fried foods, salty snacks (canned foods, popcorn with added salt, potato chips, certain lunch meat), and even peanut products (food items that contain peanuts have been directly linked to acne breakouts in various medical studies).
Another helpful step towards creating a better acne-fighting diet is to start purchasing natural or organic food items and avoiding processed foods. The next time you go grocery shopping be sure to toss the following items into your shopping cart: spinach, beets, onions, raisins, strawberries, oranges, cherries, broccoli, eggplant, corn, plums, red grapes, kale, salmon, water, ground flaxseeds, oatmeal (regular), brown rice, bread, almonds, pecans, pistachio nuts, lentils, black beans, and low fat versions of your favorite food items, among many others. The options for an acne-free diet are endless and even though it may take some time to learn how to eat healthier, once you see the improvement in your complexion, you won’t regret your decision to change your eating habits for the better.
