It is wise to remember that even though something may be labeled as “natural,” that may not really be the case. Read the labels carefully. One of the most effective and truly natural herbal acne treatments involves the use of tea tree oil. Over the past few years, more people have been purchasing tea tree oil for use on acne. As a natural antibiotic with antibacterial properties, tea tree oil has a natural drying effect when placed on the skin. In order to incorporate tea tree oil into your acne skincare routine, you can choose between adding a few drops of tea tree oil to your current skincare items or by applying it directly to the skin.
Another herbal treatment acne sufferers can turn to is the use of zinc. Usually taken within a multivitamin to benefit skin from the inside out, recent skincare studies have found that applying zinc in a topical form is very effective in treating acne by helping to control oily skin, as well as containing calming and soothing properties similar to chamomile and lavender, which can aid in providing relief for irritated and upset skin.
The olive leaf has also been shown to be a great natural herbal treatment for acne. Its main ingredient is elenolic acid, which produces powerful antibacterial effects on the skin. Because of its knack for treating skin conditions that deal with bacteria and fungal infections, the olive leaf can be another herbal acne treatment to try and can be purchased in pill or liquid form from any natural drugstore for an affordable price.
If you’re looking for a homemade treatment that’s handy for treating your next breakout, try the following recipe that calls for only one quart of water and one cup of dried thyme leaves. Bring your quart of water to boil in a saucepan. Then remove it from the heat and add your dried thyme leaves. Cover the pan and let the mixture sit for about 20 minutes. Next, strain the herbs and toss them in the trash. Now let your brew sit until the water is slightly cool to warm. Once the right temperature is reached (you should be able to put your hand in the water for a few minutes without hurting yourself), dip a clean washcloth into the mixture and wring it out. Now place the washcloth on your face where the breakout or blemishes are occurring and leave it for 15 minutes. Afterwards, remove the cloth and follow up with an astringent. This recipe allows the warm compress to open up your pores, which in turn lets the thyme’s healing properties go to work on your skin.
