It is a pigmentation disorder of the skin in which the melanocytes, retina and the mucuous membrane are destroyed. This causes white patches to appear on different areas of the body and the hair which grow in vitiligo affected areas turn white.

This disease is characterized by cholestrol getting deposited in the skin around the eyes or the skin creases of the buttocks, elbows, soles, palms or knees. These waxy, raised deposits are collectively referred to as xanthomas. These are soft, yellow and slightly raised.
