How do you know when your best friend has fallen in love – again? It’s written all over her glowy face. According to Beverly Hills dermatologist Debra Luftman, MD, “excited hormones increase the blood flow to the skin” leaving you with that fresh flushed face all day. Already in love but well over that new relationship zing? Don’t worry, sex gives your skin the same rosiness. Neither one happening for you? Here’s your cheat – splash your face and gently scrub a handful of sugar onto your skin. It’s invigorating and organically does what a gentle acid peel can do. All that extra blood flow keeps skin looking fresh.
While this may illicit a sigh from the sleepless among us, sleep is simply a necessity for great (heck, even good) looking skin. There’s no such thing as catching up on the weekends. You’ve got to get 7 hours to renew and restore your skin. If you don’t get your Z’s, be sure to use a deep moisturizer when you do sleep. Your skin absorbs and uses the moisturizers best at night when your temperature is higher. For happy, sleepy eyes, press an icy cold washcloth against them as soon as you wake up.
Happy skin looks young (minus the zits) even if it’s far from it. To help maintain that soft, bounce-back skin, use an anti-wrinkle cream with peptides. It will help stimulate collagen production and fend off those wrinkles. Exercise will also strip away the years because it transfers oxygen and nutrients to your skin.
Thirsty skin is never happy. You’ve got to stay hydrated, inside and out, to keep your ski looking and feeling its best. Water is a must. Hot showers are a bad idea is your skin is already dry. And your makeup could be doing more harm than good. Be sure everything that goes on your face is hydrating from your cleanser to your all-day moisturizer to your foundation and blush.
Get breakout-free with these stress relieving tips. Take a break at some point in your day to do something you enjoy for even 5 minutes. A stress-less break will tell your brain to stop producing cortisol, the pimple producer. Treat your face with salicylic acid to fight existing breakout and prevent new ones. The biggest favor you can do for your skin, stop inspecting it for every tiny imperfection that only you can see anyway. The more you pick, the bigger it gets. Keep that in mind the next time you start to use the magnifying glass. “Do I really want this microscopic imperfection to become a raging zit?” If the answers no, then leave it alone.
