Skincare Treatments for Common Bacterial Skin Infections

Skincare Treatments for Common Bacterial Skin InfectionsSkin infections occur in a number of people but many aren’t aware that their problem is actually a skin infection. Even more aren’t sure how they became infected in the first place. By knowing the common types of skin infections there are, you can better identify an infection for what it is and seek treatment from a doctor sooner.

Staphyloccoccus and Streptoccocus are the two forms of bacteria that are mainly responsible for the majority of bacterial skin infections. While these two are harmless and naturally found on the skin, when they come into contact with open sores or cuts, a skin infection can occur. Even though skin infections are commonly diagnosed and treated with special medication, some forms can be deadly if not caught in time. It is important to recognize possible symptoms and if in doubt, get checked out by your doctor right away. The sooner the problem is found, the faster it can be remedied.

Folliculitis is one type of skin infection that many do not realize they have. It appears in the form of little red bumps that mainly appear on the back of the arms, butt, and face. Some mistake it for a rash while others think it is a skin disorder. However, folliculitis is an infection that occurs within the hair follicle. There is another version of folliculitis known as hot tub folliculitis. As the name suggests, this type of skin infection is contracted by coming into contact with a contaminated hot tub, but can also include contact with a loofah sponge, water slide, or physiotherapy pools. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is the bacteria responsible for hot tub folliculitis. If you are suffering from folliculitis you can try to treat the area at home by cleansing the area with mild water and soap that is free of fragrances and detergent. Also wear loose fitting clothing so that the skin can breathe and drink plenty of water to naturally flush out the bacteria from your skin. For more severe cases or if the home remedies do not work, seek medical treatment.

Impetigo is a common skin infection that can affect both children and adults. Impetigo appears in the form of groups of red bumps or small blisters filled with pus or thin, cloudy fluid. Within 24 hours these blisters bust, causing the skin around the area to become inflamed and red. Over time without treatment lesions will grow and form honey-colored crusts. Impetigo targets children often because they tend to get a lot of minor skin injuries, such as cuts and scrapes, which increases their chances for a bacterial skin infection. In adults impetigo can also be caused by getting an infection through a cut or open sore, but also by coming into contact with items that have been touched by someone that is already infected. This includes towels, clothing, and bed sheets. Impetigo is highly contagious. When diagnosed by a doctor, the infected person will be prescribed oral or topical antibiotics. If the case is minor, then the doctor may suggest making changes to your hygienic routine, such as cleansing your skin more often and keeping the infected area clean. This will allow mild infections to clear up on its own.
