Johnson & Johnson Quits the Filler Market

Updated Nov 11, 2009

According to reports published online, Johnson & Johnson will halt production of its wrinkle filler Evolence. The company’s Ortho Dermatologics division made the announcement recently on its website. The move is seen by industry insiders as another indication of the effect of the economic slump.

The company itself has indicated that this is part of an overall strategy to better utilize resources. Ortho’s website said that this was meant “to refine strategic priorities and focus investment on other growth opportunities.” Evolence was approved for use by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2008. Although it has been on the local markets for such a short time, the company stands by the effectiveness and safety of the product.
